Is the new PlayStation around the corner? Yep, the wait is finally over.

Sony has officially tweeted about a press event going to be held on the 20th of February, along with a video of the famous Triangle, Circle, Letter X, and Square. They’ve also put stress on ‘See the future’ and have invited a number of industry investors to attend the event, which no doubt signifies that a major product (i.e. the next flagship PlayStation) is going to be unveiled.

Also, the Wall Street Journal (paywalled) is firmly reporting that the new PlayStation will be presented at the event later this month, with the product going on sale later down the year. They did indicate that the new console will focus more on social interactivity rather than an improvement system specs. It will include an optical drive, and an AMD CPU and GPU. There is no word yet on whether this new console will be able to play PS3 games, so we just have to wait until then.

So what’s the name of the console?

Obvious guesses point towards ‘PS4′, but what put the icing on the cake was a discovery made by a Neogaf forum member. He noted that http://us.playstation.com/ps4/ redirects back to their home page, while trying any other combinations such as http://us.playstation.com/ps5/ redirect to their standard 404 page. The /ps4 redirect definitely is a cover up for content that should go live during or right after the press event.
