Yes, it’s official…again. BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is coming to Android and iOS on the 21st and 22nd of this month.
After a leaked Android APK hit the XDA Developers forum earlier this week, there was much speculation as to when it would be released. Initially many of the anonymous commenters who claimed to be testers said it would go live some time on the 18th, but now we can put those rumors to rest as BlackBerry themselves have announced that BBM comes out on the 21st for Android users and the 22nd for iOS users.
This means that Android and iOS owners can now chat with BlackBerry owners as well as they drastically move towards increasing the size of their network. The new platformers will have access to basics such as getting their own privacy pin, sending/receiving messages with sent and received notifications, media and voice note sharing, and group chats with a maximum of 30 participants.
There are also other basics like being able to post a status, set a profile picture, personal message, and all these changes will show up in your friends’ feeds immediately whenever changed.
The BBM Channels feature is still a work in progress and will come in later updates.
It will be available for Android devices running 4.0 and above, and iOS 6+ devices.
